Leon Edwards coach trashes little REDNECK Colby Covington as British fighter wins UFC gold
“Jokes on you!” says Leon Edwards’ coach, Dave Lovell, to UFC superstar Colby Covington. The new champ’s coach couldn’t be more elated after “Rocky” became the new welterweight king.
Leon Edwards put on a spectacle at UFC 278 against his former rival Kamaru Usman in the main event. After almost the entire world had given up on the British fighter to come back from a losing battle, Leon pulled off one of the best come-from-behind headkick knockouts of all time to become the new champion of the welterweight division.
One of the main reasons why Leon got through that fight with the belt was his supporting team in his corner and his coach Dave Lovell who knocked sense into the fighter in between rounds and motivated him enough to not lose hope until the fight was over. Leon is now the champion of the welterweight division and will call his fights. And coach Dave can’t wait for the time when he has to fight the two-time welterweight title contender, Colby Covington inside the octagon.
Coach Dave Lovell believes it is Leon Edwards’ time to talk now
Recently after Leon’s phenomenal win at the Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah, his coach Dave Lovell has been more than welcoming to the press and media to talk to him about his fighter’s future and the amazing victory against Usman. In an interview with MMA Junkie’s Mike Bohn, Lovell says Colby Covington will have to stay in line if he wants another shot at the title.
Covington in the past has many times spoken ill of the UK fighter and insulted him by calling him “Leon Scott”. “Colby, you little redneck, you can stay furthermore. It’s (Leon’s) time to talk,” said Lovell talking to MMA Junkie. “it’s his time to let these so-called big mouths – Colby called him what? Didn’t even call him by his name. What was he calling him? Leon Scott? Well, I’ve got news for him now. It’s not Leon Scott. Call him Sir Leon Scott from this day on,” added Lovell in the interview.
Finally, the coach gave an idea of when we can see Leon fight Colby in a fight. “When we get around to you, we’ll deal with you, mate,” said Leon’s coach. Dave might actually turn out to be one of the biggest catalysts for this matchup to take place in real life. Now we wait for the controversial Covington to give his response.
