Mike Rowe
Mike Rowe- Biography
Mike Rowe is an American television host and narrator best known for his work on the Discovery Channel’s ‘Dirty Jobs’ series and CNN’s ‘Somebody’s Gotta Do It’ series. He grew raised in an unusual environment, away from “amusement parks or must-see events,” as he was born into a family of teachers. Rowe didn’t miss them and felt sorry for his buddies who “had to bear them” or “didn’t have any elder cousins to furnish them with a superior wardrobe of softer, studier, broken-in alternatives.”
He began his career with Baltimore Opera at the age of twenty-two, eventually doing many freelancing contracts that afforded him enough leisure to loaf around. A blunder got him his first full-time employment, ‘Dirty Jobs,’ at the age of 41. Despite his busy schedule, he continues to take on unexpected projects such as trying out a shark suit for Discovery Channel by getting in the water with three reef sharks and being shaken like a “tug-toy” by them.

He attended Overlea High School for his education. While there, he developed an interest in theater and singing, which he excelled at under choir director Freddie King. Later, he attributed his interest in performing to King. In 1979, while still in high school, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout, and as part of a service project, he was forced to read aloud to kids at the Maryland School for the Blind. His interest in writing and narrating was piqued as a result of the occurrence.
He graduated from Overlea High School in 1980 and then attended Essex Community College before transferring to Towson University, where he earned a degree in communications studies in 1985.

Mike Rowe- Professional Career
Mike Rowe entered Baltimore Opera in 1984 using forged credentials, intending to obtain a SAG certificate, which was required for entry into the television industry. He eventually received the certificate for his performance of ‘Rigoletto,’ but he persisted with his employment because he had begun to appreciate his experience by that point. He began hosting ‘Your New Home’ for WJZ-TV in Baltimore in the mid-1980s and continued to do so for the next fifteen years. Meanwhile, in 1990, he auditioned for QVC Shopping Channel because a friend bet him $100 that he wouldn’t get a callback.
He chatted about a pencil for eight minutes during the audition, which earned him an on-the-spot appointment. After three years, he was dismissed for making fun of the products and the callers. But by that time, he’d mastered the art of talking for long periods of time without saying anything. After doing a variety of freelance tasks during the 1990s, he got his first break in 2000 when he was hired as a host and narrator for the History Channel television series ‘The Most.’ The show, which addressed a wide range of most topics, lasted until 2004.
He presented ‘Evening Magazine’ on KPIX-TV in San Francisco from 2001 to 2005, as well as starring in a news piece titled ‘Somebody’s Gotta Do It.’ Meanwhile, he acted as a narrator in thirteen episodes of ‘Worst Case Scenarios’ in 2002.
Mike documented a number of unpleasant vocations in ‘Somebody’s Gotta Do It,’ including a graphic essay on cow artificial insemination. He later sent the footage to the Discovery channel, which commissioned a series based on the idea, resulting in the development of ‘Dirty Jobs.’
‘Dirty Jobs’ premiered in November 2003 as three pilot episodes before resuming as a series on July 26, 2005. It proved enormously successful, eventually lasting eight seasons till September 12, 2012. Simultaneously, he proceeded to appear in other films such as ‘American Hot Rod’ (2004), ‘Ghost Hunters’ (2004-2010), and so on.
He began working as a narrator for ‘Deadliest Catch’ in 2005, and he still does so today. ‘The Ultimate Fighter (2005-2010), ‘Shark Week’ (2006), ‘After the Catch’ (2007-2012), ‘American Dad!’ (2007), ‘Ghost Hunters International’ (2008-2010), and ‘Wild Pacific’ are some of his notable works from the recent decade (2009). He also became a pitchman in the 2000s, appearing in various Ford Motor Company F-Series truck ads since 2007. Later, he appeared in commercials for Motorola iDEN, Lee Premium Select Jeans, Caterpillar, Viva paper towels, Novartis, and other firms.
In 2012, he played himself in the film ‘How Booze Built America.’ In the 2010s, he starred as a narrator in ‘How the Universe Works’ (2010, 2014-present) and ‘Airplane Repo’ (2013-present), as well as hosting shows such as ‘Bering Sea Gold’ (2013-2018), ‘Building America’ (2014), and ‘Somebody Gotta Do It (2015). (2014-2015 on CNN). He is now hosting three shows in addition to continuing his job as a narrator in series such as ‘Deadliest Catch’ and ‘Airplane Repo.’ Among them are the web series ‘C.R.A.P.’ (which has been running since 2013), the reality web television series ‘Returning the Favor’ (which has been running since 2017), and ‘Somebody Gotta Do It’ (since 2017 on TBN)
